Thread & Fique Tour
Our indigenous people were the authors of the domestication of plants, with plants and intuitive chemistry, they gave color to the fibers, while at the same time the fabric became more refined and complex. Warp and weft were skillfully handled by holding the threads in a wooden frame called a loom. They covered their dead with the fibers, and used them as offerings in rituals and events. They were skilled at making fine blankets and other objects out of cotton and fique.
On our handicrafts tour in Medellin , you’ll head to a fique weaving workshop, where you’ll learn how artisans transform this natural fiber into beautiful decorative objects. You will be able to see how the fique is cut and cleaned, how it is dyed and how it is woven to create baskets, rugs and other decorative pieces.
